In 2002 the Aspinwall, Blawnox and Sharpsburg Fire Departments got together to form
a combined effort to provide river fire/rescue services for the Allegheny River Basin
to include the river areas of the three communities and nearby surrounding communities when requested.
At this time the combined service maintains 3 boats for the use of fire/rescue. The boats are kept
at 2 different locations along the river. Any member of any department can man any of the craft.
The Blawnox Volunteer Fire Company also has two jet skies and an inflatable Avon boat. The inflatable Avon
boat is a Pennsylvania Region 13 rescue boat.
In 2008 the Blawnox Volunteer Fire Company became an Accredited Level
II Water Rescue Team with the Pennsylvania
Water Rescue Instructors Association.
